Do not fear mistakes. You will know failure. Continue to reach out.

– Benjamin Franklin

Understanding is one of the most difficult and rewarding goals that I have ever encountered. A deep and abiding understanding of not only yourself, but also those around you is the work of a lifetime, but one that rewards every step taken along the path. I firmly believe that this is the key to living a fulfilling life and have come to it the long way around.

I address therapy as a journey of discovery. It is a way to address the things in life that trouble us, that we are having difficulty with ourselves, and to see them through another’s eyes. Having spent several years struggling to communicate out of fear of revealing weakness in myself, I have come to appreciate and value the insight of those I have come to know and trust. I believe that addressing one’s difficulties with an open mind and willingness to learn about oneself is the keystone to healthy development and personal growth.

I focus primarily on a Gestalt therapy system, utilizing exercises to raise awareness of the influence of both external and internal factors on one’s perspective, emotional state, and understanding of both. I find this particularly useful with regards to difficulties surrounding anxiety, depression, identity, perfectionism, control, relationships, and trauma. There is no singular approach that can cure all ills, but I firmly believe that learning to understand both oneself and the effects of the people and experiences in one’s life is the best starting point one can work from.
